Frequently Asked Questions
Are these solar or hardwired?
All of our pathway lighting is hardwired 12V low-voltage LED. Solar path lights are unreliable in Vancouver, our wet winters and short December days rarely give them enough charge, and most fail within a season. Hardwired systems give you consistent brightness from dusk to dawn, every night of the year.
How much does path lighting cost in Vancouver?
A typical front-walkway install with 6-10 fixtures runs $2,500-$5,500, including the transformer, direct-burial wire, and brass or copper path lights. Individual path fixtures average $150-$300 installed. Longer driveways or wraparound walkways with 15-20 fixtures typically land in the $6,000-$10,000 range.
How far apart should path lights be spaced?
We usually stagger fixtures 2.5-3.5 metres apart on alternating sides of the path to avoid the 'airport runway' look. Exact spacing depends on the fixture's beam spread and the path width, we walk the route with you at dusk and mark locations before trenching so you can see the rhythm first.
Will the fixtures handle Vancouver's rain and snow loads?
Yes. We specify solid brass or copper fixtures rated IP65 or better, with gasketed lenses and stainless hardware. Plastic or painted-aluminum path lights corrode within a couple of Pacific Northwest winters, which is why we avoid them. Wiring is direct-burial rated and splices are waterproof epoxy.
Can path lights be installed into existing concrete or pavers?
Absolutely. For existing hardscape we core-drill discreet passthroughs or route wire along the paver joints and re-sand. On concrete walkways we typically set fixtures in the adjacent planting bed 15-30 cm off the edge, which protects them from snow shovels and gives a softer wash across the walking surface.
